CCWA Update
Dear CCWA Sisters,
As the days shorten before the November elections, we want to assure you that CCWA activities continue. Because so many of you are involved in Getting Out the Vote, we are respecting your commitment and waiting to hold our next Zoom meeting until November 9th. In the meantime, we want to bring you up to date!
CCWA Voting Banner: Our banner encouraging early voting will be hung above Fairview Avenue in Hudson on October 19th. It was designed pro bono by member Alison Matheny, Creative Director of Best Studio, with several members contributing to its costs. Thank you to Alison and to those who helped finance this effort! We hope you'll drive by, vote early, and most importantly, encourage others to vote early too.
Chalk the Vote Project: Thank you to member Judi Matthews for contacting local high school art teachers on the feasibility of creating a Chalk the Vote program. Regrettably, because of staggered schedules, remote learning, and social distancing, it is not possible. We'll save this great idea for a post-COVID election cycle.
Celebrating Columbia County Women: To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment, CCWA will recognize 100 Columbia County Women Making a Difference. Carole Clark is chairing this committee, which will meet to establish guidelines and a nomination form. Watch for the announcement so you will be able to nominate a candidate. The selections and announcement will be made before the end of 2020.
Absentee Ballot Application Request Letters: As a non-partisan Alliance, CCWA was not involved in the recent Absentee Ballot Application mailer sent by the Columbia County Democratic Committee. Nonetheless, we are aware that many of our members have questions about the mailer. We have learned that the envelopes were designed in consultation with the Post Office and that inclusion of the Board of Elections return address was an unfortunate mistake. We also want to advise that State Senator Daphne Jordan's letter, indicating that an absentee ballot will be mailed to all voters, is incorrect. Absentee ballots must first be requested by the voter; they are not automatically sent to voters. Please make your voting plan now, and if possible, plan to vote early. For more information, visit the Board of Elections website at columbiacountyny.com/elections.
Women's March: On Saturday, October 17th, a Women's March is being planned by WomensMarch.com to protest the immediate appointment of a replacement for Justice Ginsburg. Events are being held in Great Barrington, Albany, and Kingston. If you wish to socially distance march with Columbia County women, you may use the CCWA Facebook page here to post your interest.

Next Meeting: Please hold Monday, November 9th, from 7:30 - 8:30 PM for our next general meeting. We will hear from Rev. Kim Singletary, Principal, Overcomers Ministry International and Elena Mosley, Executive Director, Operation Unite on the "Evolution, De Evolution of Race Relations in Columbia County."
