Hate has NO place in Chatham, NY. Gather with HateWatch Report on Jan. 19th

White Lives Matter proponents, Friday, January 14, 2022, Chatham, NY

The CCWA stands firmly against racism and the White Lives Matter (WLM) movement. Contrary to the claims of some, the WLM movement is not equivalent to the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. The WLM movement is a white supremacist, neo-Nazi group, which has no place in Chatham or society.

Take a stand, join us, and HateWatch Report to stand against the WLM movement in Chatham.

BLM advocacy does not mean blacks lives matter more, it means black lives matter as well, because right now they do not. If black lives mattered as much as white lives, the following statistics would not be true:

  • Black Americans are incarcerated in state prisons at nearly 5 times the rate of white Americans.

  • Nationally, one in 81 Black adults in the U.S. is serving time in state prison. Wisconsin leads the nation in Black imprisonment rates; one of every 36 Black Wisconsinites is in prison.

  • In 12 states, more than half the prison population is Black: Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

  • Seven states maintain a Black/white disparity in prisons with a 9 to 1 ratio: California, Connecticut, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Wisconsin.

  • Black people are three times more likely to be killed than white people in a police encounter.

  • Black and white Americans sell and use drugs at similar rates, but Black Americans are 2.7 times as likely to be arrested for drug-related offenses.

If black lives mattered as much as white lives, these statistics would have changed long ago. If black police officers across the country choked white men as they begged for their lives, or stormed into the homes of while people and shot them while they slept, polices would change over night. If black women could routinely call the police on white men innocently walking in a park, knowing the outcome could be deadly, there would be an outcry for change. If while people were routinely subjected to these behaviors, riots would not be necessary to stop these injustices.

Black lives should matter that much. Until they do, all lives won't matter as much as they should.
